Synaptic Transmission
Figure 3
15 minutes
1. Draw the synapse.
Label the a. pre-synaptic & Post-synaptic neuron & pre-synaptic cleft, b. axon terminal, c. synaptic vesicles, Ca2+ channels, Neurotransmitter vessicles, Neurotransmitters, Neurotransmitter receptors.
What causes neurotransmitters to be released?
Describe three ways neurotransmitters are cleared from the synaptic cleft? Does any of the three ways remind you of pacman?
15 minutes
Figure 4
What are the two types of receptors? Draw them! How do they differ?
As a class!!!! You need to act out a action potential traveling down an axon and synaptic transmission between two cells. Bonus points if you can clearly show the difference between summation and the post synaptic neuron firing. Ms. Jeanie has your neurotransmitters.
Extra Credit if you make a 30-60 minute video to teach other students how neurons communicate.
